A 64-year-old woman died Friday after being arrested by the Bloomington Police Department, BPD Captain Ryan Pedigo said in an email.
The woman was taken into custody in Seminary Park due to an active arrest warrant with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. She was transported to the Monroe County Jail. While in the controlled entrance and exit to the jail, the woman said she was hot “and her overall condition appeared to decline rapidly,” Pedigo said in the statement.
Police called an ambulance at 12:07 p.m., but the woman became unresponsive before it arrived. Officers performed CPR at 12:16 p.m. and administered Narcan, which is used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Monroe County Coroner's Office will now determine a cause and manner of death, Pedigo said. The officers involved were wearing body cameras and the investigation is ongoing.
