Indiana football jumps to No. 7 in AP Poll despite bye week

Indiana football rose to No. 7 in the Associated Press’ Top 25 Poll released Sunday.

Despite a bye week, the Hoosiers received help from UCLA, as the Bruins notched a 42-37 upset win over Penn State on Saturday at the Rose Bowl.

UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava strung together a career performance. The redshirt sophomore recorded 166 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air.

While Iamaleava had an accurate passing day, he did much of the damage with his legs, taking 16 carries for 128 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Before the loss, Penn State ranked No. 7 in the nation. Now, the Nittany Lions find themselves out of the top 25 rankings entirely, and preparing to right the ship against Northwestern on Oct. 11.

Meanwhile, Ohio State remains at No. 1 after a 42-3 victory over Minnesota, and Oregon dropped one spot in the poll during its bye week.

Michigan and Illinois each jumped five spots in the rankings. The Wolverines now sit at No. 15 after a 24-10 victory over Wisconsin, while the Fighting Illini leaped to No. 17 following their 43-27 win against Purdue.

Coming off a bye week, No. 7 Indiana now faces off against No. 3 Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, where ESPN’s “College GameDay” will be in attendance. The game is set to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
