The Kentucky Invitational was held Friday and Saturday. On Friday, freshman Hannah Alexander placed fourth in the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 54.94 meters. Senior Sean Mockler also achieved a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 67.26 meters, placing second overall.
Freshman Dalton Boisseau had an impressive performance in the javelin throw, placing third with a mark of 57.98 meters.
On the track, the Hoosiers had strong performances in the 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Tyler Tarter and sophomore Max Grangier placed second and fourth with personal bests with times of 51.93 seconds and 54.04 seconds, respectively.
On the women’s side, junior Jania Hodges placed second with a time of 59.21 seconds. Sophomore Ryann Parrish was close behind, finishing third with a personal best time of 59.73 seconds.
The invitational 800-meter run was also a strong event for the Hoosiers. In the women’s race, freshman Veronica Hargrave, senior Maddie Russin, sophomore Amelia Dodds and freshman Nola Sommers Glenn stuck together and placed second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
The 3000-meter steeplechase saw another four personal bests for the Hoosiers. On the men’s side, juniors Cole Raymond and Garrett Hicks placed fourth and sixth with times of 8:57.56 and 9:10.07, respectively. For the women, freshmen Michaela Quinn and Ines Herault placed third and fifth with times of 10:41.69 and 10:42.92.
Senior Martin Segurola finished the first day of competition strong for the Hoosiers, placing second in the 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 3:42.64.
The Cream and Crimson carried their strength over to the second day of competition.
Starting the day in the field, junior Taylor Schoonveld placed second in the high jump for the women, reaching a height of 1.70 meters.
The Hoosiers had several high placements in the discus throw, with freshman Hannah Alexander placing second for the women while freshman Dane Sebert and senior Hunter Smith placed second and third, respectively.
Junior Makayla Hunter brought the Hoosiers their first win of the day in the shot put with her 15.66-meter throw.
Freshman Peyton McQuinn also had a notable performance in the shot put, placing third with a personal best vault of 5.04 meters.
Moving on to the track, the men’s and women’s quartets placed high in the 4x100-meter relay. For the women, freshmen Aliyah Johnson and Kiera Davis, along with sophomore Kristina Vincic and senior Olivia Gee, placed fourth. The men’s quartet of freshman Christian Woodson, junior Novo Onovwerosuoke, senior Trelee Banks-Rose and graduate student Tamer Saleh placed second.
Sophomore Katelyn Winton and freshman Tony Provenzano represented the Hoosiers well in the 5000-meter run. Winton placed second with a time of 16:43.05 for the women, while Provenzano placed fourth with a time of 14:32.52.
Freshman Aliyah Johnson placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.76, followed by freshman Lyric Steele in sixth with a time of 12.25.
The 800-meter run brought several top 10 finishes. For the women, senior Taylor Fox placed second with a time of 2:11:77, followed closely by sophomore Lily Meyers and freshman Joey Rastrelli in third and sixth with times of 2:12.95 and 2:13.40, respectively. For the men, junior Andrew Mangum finished second with a time of 1:49.65 while freshman Matt Kim placed seventh with a time of 1:51.76.
The 4x400-meter hurdles rounded out the competition for the Hoosiers. The women’s quartet of freshman Veronica Hargrave, sophomores Kristina Vincic and Amelia Dodds and graduate student Morgan Snow placed second.
A second women’s quartet of freshmen Nola Somers Glenn and Katelyn Henselmeier along with sophomore Ryann Parrish and senior Maddie Russin were close behind, placing third. For the men, a freshmen quartet of CJ Martin, Tyler Tarter, Daquan Tate and Dezmone Starks placed third.
The Hoosiers will be back in Bloomington on May 9 for their first home meet since January for their last of the season at the Robert C. Haugh Complex.
