UPDATE: Police respond to report of potential armed robbery at 17th Street IU Credit Union

A potentially armed suspect fled south on foot from the scene of a robbery Tuesday afternoon at the IU Credit Union at 510 E. 17th Street. Police responded to the scene, and they do not believe the suspect is in the area.

People nearby can resume normal activities, according to a final IU Notify Alert issued at 4:58 p.m. Tuesday.

According to an IU Notify Bloomington alert issued at 4:39 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect was reported as a Black man wearing a tan Carhartt jacket and a black ski mask.

An IU Notify Bloomington alert issued at 4:30 p.m. instructed those close to the IU Credit Union building to seek shelter and trust their instincts. The alert also instructed those sheltering to lock the door if possible and remain in place until they receive a final IU Notify update or university or local law enforcement provides other instructions.

According to IUPD Public Information Officer Hannah Skibba, the Bloomington Police Department is investigating the robbery.
