Class of 2024 5-star forward Liam McNeeley — ranked as the No. 13 overall player in the 247Sports Composite rankings — announced his commitment to Indiana men’s basketball Sunday afternoon on ESPN.

Following a lengthy recruiting battle, McNeeley ultimately chose the Hoosiers over the University of Kansas. The 6-foot-7 forward is Indiana’s first commitment in the class of 2024, and the second 5-star the Hoosiers landed in as many years.

McNeeley, who head coach Mike Woodson prioritized recruiting for roughly a year, took official visits to the Hoosiers and the Jayhawks in September. His commitment bears similarities to that of Indiana freshman Mackenzie Mgbako, a former 5-star who picked the Hoosiers over Kansas this past May.

A native of Richardson, Texas, McNeeley played at two different high schools in his home state before transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida ahead of the 2022-23 season. In addition to Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau in the class of 2022, McNeeley is Woodson’s third commitment from Montverde.

Indiana has established a strong recruiting presence at Montverde and is actively pursuing one of McNeeley’s teammates in 5-star center Derik Queen, who ranks as the No. 3 overall center in the nation. McNeeley, who shined with 25 points for the Florida Eagles in a GEICO Top Flight Invite game Oct. 14., poses potential to follow Hood-Schifino, and possibly Mgbako, as another Hoosier one-and-done.

As Woodson gradually shifts toward a more modern offensive philosophy, McNeeley’s 3-point shooting prowess suits the Hoosiers’ system well. According to a film evaluation from Hoosiers Now, McNeeley drained 45% of his attempts from beyond the arc in 12 games for Montverde last season, and 39.5% of his 3-pointers in 62 total games since 2021.

With McNeeley being the first domino to fall in the class of 2024, Woodson and Indiana turn their sights to the recruitment of Queen and Boogie Fland, who told 247Sports he will decide between Indiana, the University of Alabama and the University of Kentucky.
