Jill Lees, the former chief of police for IUPD’s Bloomington division, has departed from the department. Lees had served in the position since 2019.

IUPD has not released any further information on why Lees departed from the department.

Lees graduated from the IU Police Academy in 1994. She left her position at the Plainfield Police Department in 2019 to become the Chief of Police for IUPD’s Bloomington division. Lees replaced former Bloomington division Chief of Police Laury Flint, who currently serves as the university wide Director for Engagement and Threat Assessment.

The IUPD directory currently lists Brad Seifers, IUPD’s Deputy Superintendent, as interim division chief of the Bloomington division.

IUPD oversees eight campus divisions: IU Bloomington, IUPUI, IUPUC, IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU Southeast and IU South Bend.

IUPD Public Information Officer Hannah Skibba declined to comment on the departure.
