Sweetgreen — a restaurant chain specializing in salads and bowls — will open its first Bloomington location at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 15 at 210 E. Kirkwood Ave.

The store’s opening day festivities will include building your own bouquet with Seedlings Flowers, vintage IU apparel giveaways from SLCT Stock for the first 50 customers, cookies from Baked! of Bloomington and music provided by Indianapolis DJ Iman Tucker. Sweetgreen will also hand out hats and stickers. All giveaways are free and available while supplies last, according to a promotional email.

For members who cannot attend sweetgreen's opening on Aug. 15, the restaurant will host a soft opening from noon to 6 p.m. on both Aug. 11 and Aug. 12. The meals are complimentary, but visitors must RSVP to attend. The RSVP link will remain open until sweetgreen reaches its capacity for the event.

Sweetgreen will also offer a $5 app credit to those who can’t make it during their preview and opening days. Customers can sign up to receive their credit, which must be used during the Bloomington location’s opening week, which will end Aug. 20.

In addition to these festivities, sweetgreen will donate a meal to Hoosier Hills Food Bank for every meal purchased on opening day. Hoosier Hills Food Banks is a non-profit organization located in Bloomington that helps people struggling with food insecurity.

Once its opening week is over, sweetgreen will offer $3 off any bowl or salad for students who present their student ID. The deal lasts from Aug. 19 to Aug. 26.
