The Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported that two people, New York resident Rajesh Kumar and Bloomington resident Paul Bosler, died at Lake Monroe this past weekend.

According to Indiana Public Media, Kumar did not resurface after jumping into Lake Monroe Saturday afternoon, prompting conservation officers and a dive team to respond to the area. Kumar was pronounced dead on the scene.

Sunday afternoon, emergency responders reported to Lake Monroe after witnesses reported Bosler jumped into the lake and did not resurface. Bosler was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

In both incidents, the DNR said the victims were not using life jackets.

This year, six people have drowned at Lake Monroe. In April, first responders recovered the bodies of two IU students, Siddhant Shah, 19, and Aryan Vaidya, 20, after an extensive four day search. The Indiana Daily Student reported the two had disappeared under the surface of the lake while swimming with friends.
