Graduate workers vote to suspend strike

The Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition-United Electrical Workers voted to suspend their strike for the summer and to submit grades for Spring 2022 classes on May 9, according to a press release. The IGWC-UE said they are preparing for a more disruptive strike in the fall.

This summer, the IGWC-UE plans to move graduate worker classes off of Canvas for the fall semester in order to have control over grades and classes. They are also working on establishing a Research Assistant Strike Committee.

IGWC-UE said they have received support from the IU campus and Bloomington community throughout their four-week strike, citing general faculty support and the special faculty meeting on May 9.

The IGWC-UE said 1,800 of the 2,500 graduate workers at IU have signed union membership cards.
