After a road series loss to Wisconsin last weekend, Indiana softball will play its first Big Ten Conference series at Andy Mohr Field against Rutgers this weekend.

Indiana will play its first home game since March 30 after its 14-11 victory against Kent State University. Indiana currently holds a 19-10 record on the season and is 2-4 in Big Ten play. Indiana is 5-0 at Andy Mohr Field and looks to continue its winning streak at home.

Last season, Rutgers finished 8-36 and 13th in the Big Ten, only above Penn State. Now, Rutgers is 23-15 this season with a 1-5 Big Ten record and is ranked 12th in the conference. Rutgers has played two Big Ten series this season, going 1-2 against Minnesota and 0-3 against Nebraska.

The Scarlet Knights’ graduate student Gabrielle Callaway leads the team in the on-base plus slugging category with a 1.153 to her name. Callaway also leads the team with six home runs and 38 RBIs. Sophomore shortstop Kyleigh Sand has a .422 batting average to lead the Scarlet Knights this season.

Junior pitcher Jaden Vickers is the ace of the Rutgers pitching staff. She currently has a 14-4 record, 3.83 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP in 119.0 innings pitched this season.

Indiana has played two three-game series in Big Ten play thus far, going 1-2 against Wisconsin last weekend and 1-2 against then No. 23-ranked Ohio State the weekend before.

Indiana freshman pitcher and designated hitter Brianna Copeland earned her third Big Ten Softball Freshman of the Week honor Monday after her standout performance against Kent State. Sophomore second baseman Cora Bassett was ranked second in the “Second Baseman and Shortstop Power Rankings” from D1Softball.

The first game of the series against Rutgers is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The second game will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and the series will conclude at noon on Sunday.

The Friday and Sunday games will be broadcast on BTN+, and the Saturday game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
