Former Indiana football quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will transfer to the University of Washington, according to a post on his Instagram account. Penix originally entered the transfer portal on Dec. 5.

He will join Kalen Deboer, who was Indiana’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2019 and named the head coach at Washington on Nov. 29.

Penix had 939 yards, four passing touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2021 before suffering what would become a season-ending acromioclavicular joint separation in his left shoulder against Penn State on Oct. 2.

He was also Indiana’s starting quarterback in 2019 and 2020, when he helped lead the Hoosiers to appearances in the Gator Bowl and the Outback Bowl, but played in neither due to injury. All three of his seasons spent as a starter ended with an injury.
