IU President McRobbie announced IU-Bloomington professor John Appelgate as the interim executive vice president and provost following the retirement of current vice president and provost Lauren Robel on June 30.

Applegate will serve as the executive vice president and provost from June 30 until a permanent replacement can be appointed by the new IU President, following McRobbie’s retirement in June.

Applegate is currently the executive vice president of University Academic Affairs and has been working at IU as a professor for the Maurer School of Law since 1998, according to his faculty page on the IU website. Applegate was named the James Louis Calamaras Professor of Law in 2020.

In the announcement, McRobbie also announced the selection of IU Kokomo Chancellor Sue Sciame-Giesecke as interim executive vice president for University Academic Affairs, taking over Applegate’s previous position. Sciame-Giesecke will serve in this role beginning July 1 and will serve until a permanent provost is selected, according to the announcement.

Sciame-Giesecke was appointed IU-Kokomo chancellor in 2014. As vice president for University Academic Affairs, she will be responsible for university academic affairs and online education areas.
