IU Arabic professor Zaineb Istrabadi dies at 65

IU Arabic professor Zaineb Istrabadi, died on Jan. 23. She was 65.

Istrabadi died of breast cancer, which she had battled for nearly 15 years, according to a tweet from her brother and IU law professor Feisal Istrabadi.

“My much beloved sister, Dr. Zaineb Istrabadi, lost a nearly 15-year fight with breast cancer this morning, a fight she conducted with humor, grace and an indescribable reserve of strength,” Feisal Istrabadi wrote on Twitter. “She leaves an unfillable void. May she rest in peace.”

Zaineb Istrabadi had taught at IU since 2001, most recently teaching Quranic Arabic, Introductory Arabic, Advanced Arabic I-IV and Arabic Dialects: Iraqi. She was a senior lecturer in the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the Hamilton Lugar SchoolShe also researched interfaith dialogues, community outreach and Sufism.
