IU student killed Saturday by gunshot in Brooklyn, New York

An IU-Bloomington student was shot and killed in Brooklyn, New York, early Saturday morning, IU spokesperson Chuck Carney said.

Officers discovered Ethan Williams, 20, shot in the chest around 2:30 a.m., according to a WTHR article.

He was visiting friends in New York City, according to an email from the dean of the Media School.

He was transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and died from injuries later that morning, according to the article.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the article. Police said the shooter’s target may not have been Williams. No arrests have been made.

Williams was a sophomore from Indianapolis and a pre-media student, according to the dean's email. He had transfered to IU this fall from Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. He graduated from Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis.

Carney said IU is reaching out to the family.

This story was updated at 1 p.m. Sunday to include information from an email from the Media School.
