IU Police Department officers and attend to an accident Tuesday at the Circle K at the corner of Third Street and Indiana Avenue.

An IU student was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Third Street and Indiana Avenue onTuesday morning as a result of a car crash, police said. The student was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

IUPD Bloomington Deputy Chief Shannon Bunger said a box truck was traveling west on Third Street approaching Indiana Avenue. Bunger said the box truck allegedly ran a red light and hit a pickup truck that was traveling north on Indiana Avenue.

The collision sent the pickup truck spinning to the northwest corner of the intersection, near the Circle K where the student was, Bunger said. He said the student reached the corner after crossing the street. Police received the call to the scene at 9:33 a.m.

Bunger said the student will be prepared to fly to a hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment, which he said is a common procedure. No one in the vehicles were injured, he said.
