Man arrested for arson, burglary after vacant house fire

Police arrested a 30-year-old man Friday in relation to a vacant house fire March 3.

Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jason Shaevitz said BPD recognized the man, Adam Tibbett, from multiple previous encounters.

BPD and Bloomington Fire Department arrived at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday to a structure fire on West Third Street. The house was boarded up from a previous fire in November 2019.

The fire caused extensive damage, according to police reports, but it was not determined what damage was from which fire.

Police recognized Tibbett through security camera footage from businesses across the street. Shaevitz said the video showed Tibbett walking around the area before entering the house through the front door around 6 p.m.

Shaevitz said about 10-15 minutes later in the video, smoke appeared from the roof, followed by visible flames.

Tibbett refused to talk with police. He is facing two felony charges of arson and burglary for breaking into the house.
