A 27-year-old Bloomington man was arrested Wednesday morning after reportedly stealing a vehicle on the 1600 block of West Eighth Street, according to an email from Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

Lawrence Canada was arrested for the preliminary charges of robbery and vehicle theft for allegedly stealing a 36-year-old man’s black 2008 Chevrolet Equinox.

Pedigo said the car owner drove to the residence on West Eighth Street in his Chevrolet Equinox and got into an argument with Canada.

The car owner told police that during the fight, Canada punched and kicked him and struck him in the head with some sort of pole. Officers noted that the car owner had a large laceration on the back of his head.

Canada then got into the vehicle, which was still running, and drove away, according to Pedigo’s email.

Pedigo said in the email that officers were called to the 1800 block of West Marquis Drive in response to a non-related call when they saw Canada driving the Equinox.
