Wood placed over electrical equipment after 9-year-old electrocuted

IU workers covered metal electrical conduits under the Jordan River bridges near the Indiana Memorial Union with wood this week after a 9-year-old boy was electrocuted Oct.10.

IU spokesperson Chuck Carney said the wood was placed as an act of caution to make sure another accident does not happen.

The wood covers the conduits to prevent electricity from conducting outside the electrical equipment, Carney said.

All the electrical equipment in the area has been checked, and one piece of electrical equipment has been repaired, Carney said.

Carney said the university still does not know exactly how the accident occurred.
