Two women were struck by a car around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Third Street and Ballantine Road, police said.

Both women, aged 59 and 39, were taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, IU Police Department Sgt. Christopher Collins said. Their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

LifeDesigns team manager Tami Grow said the 59-year-old woman, who worked for Grow, was helping take the 39-year-old back from music lessons when the two were struck while crossing the street.

Grow said she went to the hospital, and the women were still undergoing tests around 9 p.m. but appeared to be stable.

“They both got really lucky,” she said.

The driver, a 22-year-old IU student, is being investigated for possibly operating while intoxicated, Collins said. The sun was also setting at the time, which Collins said might have been a factor in the incident.
