“Feel of Vision,” a documentary directed and produced in Bloomington, will screen as part of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour this Sunday.

The documentary, which is 26 minutes long, will be one of nine short films shown starting at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, the festival’s second day. Tickets are $17 per day or $30 for the entire festival and can be purchased online or at the Buskirk-Chumley's box office.

“Feel of Vision” follows Lonnie Bedwell, an Indiana resident who lost his eyesight and turned to whitewater kayaking. Comprised of interviews with Bedwell’s friends and family, as well as footage of his kayaking trips to Paradise Valley, Arizona, and Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, the film explores the connections he forms through the sport.

“After meeting Lonnie at the Team River Runner’s Outta Sight Clinic in Montana, Indiana natives and directors, Tucker Gragg and Austin Gardner, tell the story of the blind kayaker through his friends and family, creating an immersive tale about a Midwesterner making his way down rivers far from home while trying to share the hope he’s found with others,” a film press release reads.

Prior to its upcoming screening at the Buskirk-Chumley, “Feel of Vision” screened at a number of other film events around the country, including Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival in Arizona, The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Montana and the Vancouver Mountain Film Festival.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is sponsored by IU Outdoor Adventures. Brian Croft, coordinator of outdoor programs at IU Outdoor Adventures, said the inclusion of “Feel of Vision” is exciting.

“This year, it’s kind of brought it to a whole new level,” he said. “When you think about whitewater rafting, you don’t think of Indiana.”
