Dollar General robbed Saturday at knifepoint

A man with a knife robbed Dollar General on West Third Street on Saturday evening.

The cashier told police the man spent a long time in the store before coming up to purchase items. After the cashier rang up the items, the man took out a knife and told the cashier to put the money from the register into his grocery bags, Lt. Myrick Williams said.

He left the store with $236 in cash and $38 in products. The cashier did not see if the man ran or got in a car, Williams said.

The products included toothpaste, dog treats, plastic silverware, candy, T-shirts, hand sanitizer, dryer sheets, earbuds and air freshener.

Police are getting the security footage and are still investigating the robbery.
