Bloomington man found dead outside parking garage at 7th and College

UPDATED - 12:02 a.m.

Bloomington police found a 57-year-old man dead outside the parking garage at the intersection of West Seventh Street and North College Avenue on Sunday night.

BPD received a report from a passerby at around 6:50 p.m. saying they saw someone lying on the sidewalk, according to Sgt. Ben Burns, who was on the scene.

He said the passerby attempted to check the nearby sheriff's office, but no one was there. The passerby then called 911.

Burns said his first officer on the scene diagnosed the man as in serious medical condition and an ambulance was already on its way. A short while after, it was determined the man was dead, he said.

Police identified the man with an ID found on his person, BPD Capt. Steve Kellams said. He said he wasn't sure if next of kin had been notified yet, so BPD would not release the man's name.

The investigation is ongoing, Burns said.

Burns said there is no reason to suspect foul play.

"It appears that he likely jumped from the parking garage at some height or level," he said.
