Letter to the Editor: Brett Kavanaugh does not represent Hoosier values

Hoosiers of all political stripes deserve access to affordable health care and believe that pre-existing conditions need to be covered; support a woman’s right to choose; and believe that the President of the United States is not above the law. These are not issues of any one political party. They reflect the values of Hoosiers.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is openly hostile to the Affordable Care Act; has made it clear that he is an avowed foe of abortion rights; and believes that the laws of the land do not apply to the president. By the way, he also believes that individual states do not have the constitutional authority to restrict the sales of semi-automatic weapons.

The list of options that Trump chose from to fill the vacant supreme court seat was developed by the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation. As a Hoosier, I don’t want the Heritage Foundation to determine the short list of who will be casting the swing vote in the Supreme Court for the next generation. We cannot allow Kavanaugh’s nomination to succeed. The ramifications will be devastating and will last for decades. Take action today. Call Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly’s office at (202) 224-4814. And if that line is busy or the answering machine is full, then call (317) 226-5555 and request that Senator Donnelly vote “NO” on the Kavanaugh nomination.  That’s all you have to say. Let Joe know that Kavanaugh does not represent Hoosier values.
