The “Dance Moves and Movies” series will kick off at 7 p.m.  June 22 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater with a tap dance demo and lesson from The Dance Theater, followed by a showing of the 2006 film “Happy Feet.”

This interactive film series will continue with a showing of “Dirty Dancing” on June 29, “Step Up” on July 20 and “Top Hat” on Aug 3.

According to BCT associate director Rebecca Stanze, Buskirk-Chumley has partnered with various community dance organizations in order to offer short lessons before each of the films, including Ritmos Latinos Indiana, Arthur Murray Dance Studio and the 40vers Hip Hop Group.

“It crosses genres of things that we do in the theater,” Stanze said of the series. “We love film, but we also do all kinds of performing arts, and we have dance.”

Stanze said the film list was curated to represent different time periods and to interest different audiences.

Tickets to any of the events can be purchased for $5 online or at the BCT box office.
