A Bloomington man was arrested Monday in connection to two sexual assault cases, one reported in September and the other last Thursday.

Patrick Handy, 28, was taken into custody Monday after he turned himself in at the Bloomington Police Department.

Officers were already searching for Handy after a woman reported he had raped her Thursday.

The 28-year-old woman told police Handy, a man she dated for three months, raped her at an apartment around 5:30 p.m. that evening.

She said she had blocked him on social media accounts and had not talked to him since February of this year. But, she said he later began sending her several emails asking to talk.

The woman told police she met Handy at the Monroe County Public Library that Thursday before the two went back to an apartment. She said her ex-boyfriend wanted to get back together, but she did not.

When she went to the bathroom, the man allegedly forced his way in as she opened the door to get back out, the woman told police. She said that was when he raped her.

The woman reported immediately leaving the area before calling the police and going to the hospital for a sexual assault examination.

Another woman said she met a man named “Patrick” at a bar on Sept. 30. She told police she did not consent to the sexual activity she said took place in a parking lot and in her home.

Handy was booked into Monroe County Jail at 6:45 p.m. Monday on three charges of rape.
