Thanksgiving week in Bloomington offers multiple events

While students will be on break Nov. 18-26, the week of Thanksgiving in Bloomington is still filled with events. From activities like learning how to decorate a Christmas tree to performances of original songs being played by the artist who created them, there are several events to attend in Bloomington as the holiday season begins. Creating a Designer Christmas Tree - Nov. 18 at Ivy Tech John Waldron Center

Decorating a Christmas tree is defined as an art within itself at this decorating workshop. For those looking to master the art of decking out trees like those seen on television or in department stores, this workshop, from 10 a.m. to noon, will cover all of the techniques to make at-home Christmas trees look professionally decorated, according to Visit Bloomington's website.

Brad Goode with Trio Collective - Nov. 19 at The Players Pub

Trumpeter Brad Goode will play at the Players Pub alongside pianist Evan Main, bassist Stefan Lenthe and percussionist Chris Parker for free at 7 p.m. According to Visit Bloomington's website, Goode has been called "the lyrical genius of the trumpet" by the Chicago Tribune and has recorded on more than 100 jazz records.

Bloomington Songwriter Showcase - Nov. 21 at Bear's Place

Three Bloomington residents and artists from surrounding areas will have the opportunity to perform their original songs at Bear's Place at 8 p.m. According to Visit Bloomington's website, the evening will feature guitarist Bulldog Johnson, songwriter Reid Libby and Chris Wurster, a recently retired professor of DePauw University. There will also be an opportunity for guests to perform if they show up early and sign up for open guest chair.

Holly Days - Celebrate the Season - Nov. 24 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater

The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra will continue the holiday spirit the day after Thanksgiving with a concert at 5:30 p.m. According to the Buskirk-Chumley Theater website, the evening will include sing alongs, seasonal classics and Christmas carols. The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra performs its repertoire throughout the year in Bloomington as well as other parts of south-central Indiana, according to the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra website. 

15th Annual Bloomington Holiday Market - Nov. 25 at Shower's Building & Plaza, City Hall

From locally grown farm products to handmade arts and crafts, the 15th annual Bloomington Holiday Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and give people the opportunity to shop small businesses for the holiday season. In addition to the wide array of shopping, the TubaSantas will also be playing music of the season at the market.
