Wrestling adds intrasquad dual meet set for Thursday

Senior Nate Jackson takes down Minnesota's Robert Stevenson in the University Gym last spring. Jackson, now a volunteer assistant coach with the Hoosiers, will help oversee Thursday's exhibition duel in Bloomington.

The IU wrestling team announced the addition of an intrasquad exhibition dual to its schedule that will pit Hoosiers against their fellow teammates Thursday, Oct. 26.

The Cream and Crimson Dual will take place at 7 p.m. in the University Gym and will feature nine matches in eight different weight classes.

"[The match] is a great opportunity for us as coaches to see which of our guys are ready to compete and what our lineup might turn out to be," IU Coach Duane Goldman said in a release. "It's exciting to have the season just around the corner."

According to the release from IU wrestling, the Hoosier coaches decided to put on a preseason preview for fans because of the excitement they've had about their wrestlers' development in the offseason.

Junior Elijah Oliver, a two-time NCAA qualifier, will face off against sophomore Liam Cronin at 125 lbs. to begin the meet. There will be two matches at the 133-lb. weight class, as sophomore Garrett Pepple takes on freshman Kyle Luigs and freshman Michael De La Peña will wrestle against sophomore Brandon James.

Other notable matches include junior Jake Danishek grappling with freshman Dillon Hoey at 157 lbs.

At 165 lbs., redshirt junior Bryce Martin will face freshman Logan Herrera.

Sophomore Devin Skatzka, who picked up 13 dual wins last season as a freshman, will face sophomore Gabe Koontz at 174 lbs.

The final match of the evening at 197 lbs. will pit freshmen Jake Kleimola and Mike Maguire against one another.
