Softball splits doubleheader in Indianapolis

Senior infielder Rachel O'Malley swings and makes contact with the ball during IU's game against Michigan State in May. O'Malley and the Hoosiers are 4-2 in fall season play under new Coach Shonda Stanton.

IU softball continued its fall season this past weekend with a pair of games in Indianapolis on the campus of Butler University.

The Hoosiers played Heartland Community College and Butler in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

IU defeated Heartland 13-1 in the first game of the day. The second half of the doubleheader saw the Hoosiers lose to the Bulldogs, 3-2, in a game that went into extra innings. IU and Butler were tied 2-2 after seven innings, before the Bulldogs won the game in the eighth inning.

By splitting Saturday's doubleheader, the Hoosiers improved their fall season record to 4-2, with victories against Heartland, IU-Purdue University Indianapolis and Miami (Ohio).

Two games remain for IU in the fall season, both of which will be played this Friday afternoon at Andy Mohr Field against Lakeland Community College.

The first game against Lakeland is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., with the second game to start at 6 p.m.
