The IU Police Department arrested Ramtin Thang, 30, at 4:15 p.m. Monday after he allegedly offered a 19-year-old female IU student $1,000 a month to have sex with him.

The offering reportedly took place Sept. 24, but officers could not identify Thang until Monday.

Officers identified Thang as the suspect after another female student reported him Monday. The student told police Thang approached her and started talking to her about a movie. The two exchanged phone numbers before Thang allegedly sent her a text message about the movie later that day.

The student said she thought the exchange was strange and reported it to the IUPD, which matched the suspect’s description with that of the suspect from the first incident. Police then used the phone number to identify Thang.

Thang was charged with three counts of patronizing prostitution and placed in Monroe County Jail.
