Police arrested two IU students on charges of underage drinking at Kilroy's Recess, a club targeted at underage students, after a fight at the club.
The fight happened at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday at the Kirkwood Avenue club, and resulted in a bruise over a 20-year-old male's left eye.
The alleged victim, whose name has not been released to the public, said the fight began when he and 19-year-old Xavier Massela, were at the night club. He told the Bloomington Police Department that Massela threw a drink onto him and his friends before the argument became physical.
During the fight, he said 19-year-old Dariush Ahdoot allegedly joined the fray when he punched the 20-year-old, drawing blood from above his left eye.
Ahdoot told police he was not involved in the fight, but the alleged victim's statement and surveillance video surveyed by Recess staff suggested he was the one who threw the punch, BPD Lt. John Kovach said.
Massela was later detained by Recess staff for being uncooperative and physical with them.
Police arrested Massela on charges of minor possession of alcohol and disorderly conduct. Ahdoot was arrested on charges of battery, minor possession of alcohol and falsely informing, after police said he lied to them about his real name.
Kilroy’s Recess opened next to Kilroy’s on Kirkwood on Aug. 23.
When the club opened, Mayor John Hamilton told the IDS he was uncomfortable with having a club for students under 21 next to the Bloomington bar. He said he was concerned about the effect the club would have on students and public safety.
The club also drew criticism for promoting unsafe drinking habits and rape culture last week after two now-deleted tweets about underage girls and drinking until blacking out were posted from its Twitter account.
Recess uses wristbands to distinguish between patrons over 21 and those under 21 who can't be served alcohol. While Massela and Ahdoot were both arrested for minor possession of alcohol after a fight at the club, it is unknown whether or not they obtained the alcohol from Recess or elsewhere.
