Students who report sexual assault say IU’s system of response leaves them hurt, angry and unsupported. Those accused of rape say the system is unfair and biased. As the University conducts its own investigation of these reports, students are routinely denied timely access to evidence, are made to advocate for themselves and are compelled to participate under the threat of academic holds. But it doesn’t have to be this way. In a yearlong investigation, the IDS found room for change in IU policy and examples of how other schools handle these cases differently.
