Frank Ocean releases new, jazzy song during VMAs

provider.jpg

In the chaos of the VMAs, something happened that was, unfortunately, easy to miss. Frank Ocean dropped a new single, “Provider,” on an episode of his show “blonded RADIO” last night.

The song has since been uploaded to Spotify, iTunes and there’s a lyric video on his website, blonded.co.

The lyric video begins with a man ripping apart and remodeling an old boombox radio. Hello Kitty bounces over the lyrics on the screen as the cassette spins.

You have to pay attention to the video though, because there doesn’t seem to be any way to rewind or fast-forward through it.

When I first saw the guy ripping apart the radio and adding gigantic speakers, all I could think was “This is going to be a cute lyric video to match a great song," and I wasn’t wrong.

“Feelings you provide,” Ocean sings over a jazzy beat that I can only describe as ‘so-Frank-Ocean-it-almost-hurts’. I’m a fan of the song. Maybe you will be too. Listen to it here, or on my playlist for the week (featured in my column about Mura Masa).
