The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office partnered with Comedy Attic for Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Two Comedy Attic regulars and local stand-up comedians Jonas Schrodt and Stephanie Lochbihler will perform sketch comedy centered on consent in a promotional video, according to the press release.
Comedy Attic owner Jared Thompson developed the 90-second video after being approached by Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office about the idea, according to the press release.
“We were looking for a fresh way to communicate that would appeal to college students,” Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Gaal said in a press release.
The video features a dialogue between “Good Jonas” and “Bad Jonas.” Schrodt plays a man anxiously awaiting his girlfriend as he has a conversation between his good and evil twins, according to the press release.
While the good twin encourages Jonas to “treat her like a human being, with respect,” the evil twin has prepared a stockpile of alcohol and drugs in an effort to convince his girlfriend to have sex, according to the press release.
After “Good Jonas” walks off with his girlfriend, “Bad Jonas” realizes the error of his ways and throws away the drugs and alcohol.
The video is also sponsored by IU’s Sexual Assault Crisis Service, Safe Sisters and Men Against Rape and Sexual Assault, according to the press release.
“We think it is important to keep talking about consent,” SACS counselor Ann Skirvin said in a press release. “Putting that message into a comedy sketch spreads the message more widely to people who might otherwise have tuned it out.”
