Gas line break reported near East 13th Street

After an IU-Bloomington tweet announced no gas leak had been found in the area, IU Police Department Lt. Craig Munroe confirmed authorities are now looking into the possibility of a regulator malfunction in the area.

Munroe said authorities might still remain in the 1000 block of East 13 Street to determine the cause of the problem, but there is no present danger. He said people are free to go about their business in that area but should pay attention to instruction from officials that still might be present.

Munroe said he believes the area will be cleared quickly.

The initial notification reported that a three-inch gas line ruptured near the 700-1000 block of East 13th Street, according to an IU-Bloomington alert. This might present danger to people in the area.

IUPD and Bloomington Fire Department closed roads in the area, according to an email from IU Notify.

The email encouraged everyone to take safe shelter and to not enter the area.
