Assault on student reported

An assault was reported early Wednesday morning, according to an IU alert.

According to the alert, a man was struck in the face with a fist and headbutted at 3:07 a.m.

Lt. Andy Stephenson of the IU Police Department said the reported assault occurred on the sidewalk at the intersection of Sixth and Dunn streets.

Stephenson said a police officer in a marked car came across two groups of men. One man told the officer that his friend had been attacked. The groups did not know one another prior to the alleged attack.

Stephenson said the victim was a male student.

According to the crime alert, IUPD has identified a suspect as a white male with blonde, slicked-back hair. He was last seen walking south from the 100 block of South Dunn Street.

According to the IUPD, the suspect remains at large but is no longer a threat to campus.
