Man arrested on violent crime charges

The Bloomington Police Department arrested a man on June 28 on charges of domestic battery, strangulation and intimidation.

Officers responded to a call from Cresent Donut at 231 S. Adams St. saying a female customer had come in and said her boyfriend had abused her.

When they arrived they noticed a white male standing near the entrance and identified him as Christopher Vanhooser, 24.

The female said she and Vanhooser were living in a tent near the shop. She said he had accused her of cheating and that he had battered her before. She also said he was intimidating and had a violent stance, so she kicked him in the face twice.

She said he then retaliated and strangled her with one hand while he punched her with the other. She said she passed out, and when she awoke he was still hitting her. She was able to kick him in the groin and to get away.

Vanhooser said the female had started the fight, but she had injuries consistent with being hit and strangled, so police arrested Vanhooser.
