Ferrell, Robinson waive court date

Update April 27, 9:22 a.m.: Monroe County Prosecutor Chris Gaal said IU basketball players Kevin 'Yogi' Ferrell and Stanford Robinson filed to waive their 8:30 a.m. court date, opting to appear at a later time.

The new court date is not yet known.

Ferrell and Robinson were arrested Friday morning, according to a press release from Indiana State Excise Police. Both men received preliminary charges of minor consumption of alcohol and possession of false identification.

At about 1 a.m. Friday, Ferrell and Robinson used false IDs to try to enter Kilroy's Sports Bar on North Walnut Street, according the release. Ferrell and Robinson were both issued summonses and released. Their court date was originally set for 8:30 a.m. April 27 at Monroe County Court.

In a statement released Friday evening, IU Coach Tom Crean said he was aware of the incident.

"We are aware of the two infractions with a couple of the guys on our team," Crean said in the statement. "This isn't about a time of year or a special week on campus. This is about poor judgment, selfishness of actions, and disrespect for what this program stands for."

Ferrell and Robinson's citations are the second and third alcohol-related infractions involving IU men's basketball players in 2014. Hanner Mosquera-Perea was arrested Feb. 14 and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol causing endangerment.

Crean said he will push responsibility and accountability on his players.

"We will continue as we have all year to push the responsibility of what it means to play in this basketball program and to represent yourself beyond reproach. We have been successful in doing that in the past and will continue to demand those same principles," he said.

At 4:50 a.m. Friday, the IDS reported on Hoosier Hype that there were unconfirmed reports Ferrell might have been detained by police near the Taco Bell on North Walnut Street.

Because that post included unconfirmed claims, it was replaced by this update.
