INDOT shifts Ind. 46 traffic in Monroe, Owen counties

The Indiana Department of Transportation moved State Road 46 traffic Tuesday night to a new route at the Monroe and Owen county line.

A $2.8 million sight-distance project has lowered highlands and raised valleys to improve safety for motorists along the highway between Spencer and Bloomington, according to an INDOT press release.

North County Line Road access to Gosport was interrupted by the project.

Milestone, the contractor, is ramping up County Line Road with a wedge to meet the 9-foot grade change at the juncture with SR 46, according to the release.

County road access to Gosport should be reopened by the middle of next week.

INDOT advises extra caution in traveling the newly constructed 1-mile section of SR 46, according to the release.

After completion of the whole project, SR 46 will have 12-foot lanes with 8-foot shoulders.
