Tornado watch in effect until 2 a.m. Friday

A tornado watch is currently in effect for Monroe County and the surrounding areas.

A severe thunderstorm warning was also issued for eastern Monroe County at 9:43 p.m.

Severe thunderstorms were located a long a line extending from seven miles southeast of Martinsville to eight miles northeast of Jasper, moving east at 35 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service's website.

The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 10:30 p.m.

The tornado watch remains valid until 2 a.m. Friday and is in effect for 19 counties in Indiana, including neighboring Brown, Jackson, Lawrence, Greene, Morgan and Owen counties, according to the website.

Cities included in the tornado watch are Bedford, Bloomington, Columbus, Seymour, Shelbyville, Terre Haute and Vincennes.

There is also a threat for damaging winds between 5 and 11 p.m.
