City of Bloomington offers video contest

The City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission is seeking submissions for its “MLK Day Video Contest.”

The contest, which is in its second year, is designed to address the life and legacy of Dr. King, according to the City of Bloomington’s website.

The video contest is the replacement of the web design contest that the commission organized for 12 consecutive years from 1999 to 2011.

“It made sense to change the contest and make it appeal more to today’s students,” said Craig Brenner, community and family resources special projects coordinator for the City of Bloomington.

Brenner said this new contest allows students to explore the legacy of Dr. King and also aims to educate others.

The contest application information and link can be found at bloomington.in.gov/mlk.
The contest is open to all elementary, middle and high school students in the Bloomington area.

The deadline to submit a video is 5 p.m. Dec. 13,and the grand prize winner will receive an iPad mini.

The contest is part of the larger celebration the commission has planned for MLK day.
Brenner said the winning video may be shown at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration, which will be Jan. 20, 2014, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
