Maisonneuve named associate head coach for IU men's soccer

Brian Maisonneuve has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach of the IU men's soccer team, the team announced Monday morning.

Maisonneuve has been an assistant on the team since the 2010 season, arriving the same time as IU Coach Todd Yeagley.

"Brian has played an instrumental role in helping our program compete at a championship level,” Yeagley said in Monday's release. “He does an excellent job both on and off the field to help our student-athletes reach their goals."

Yeagley and Maisonneuve played together at IU from 1991-94, with Maisonneuve capturing All-America honors in `93 and `94, while also winning the Hermann Trophy in `94, given to the top college soccer player in the nation.

Maisonneuve went on to play nine seasons in Major League Soccer for the Columbus Crew. He also suited up for the U.S. men's national team in 1998, playing in three matches in the World Cup.

He competed for Team USA in the Olympics in 1996.

His coaching career started when he took an assistant coaching job with the U.S. under-17 national team. He was then an assistant in 2007 to the U.S. under-20 national team before coaching that team in the 2007 World Cup in Canada.

Following that, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Louisville before coming to Bloomington.

Kevin Robson was also named volunteer assistant for the team Monday.

Robson won two national championships as a player at IU from 2003-06.

"We are very excited to have Kevin return to IU to serve on our coaching staff,” Yeagley said in the release. “Kevin can light up a room with his enthusiasm and passion for IU Soccer.  Kevin has a deep appreciation for what it means to wear the IU Jersey and I am excited to have him work with our team.”

Robson has spent the past couple of years working in the private sector, but also coaching various age groups of Real Colorado in Denver.

"I am very thrilled and honored to be heading back to Indiana University,” Robson said in the release. “Getting the chance to learn from established coaches such as Todd, Brian, and Ernie is an opportunity I can't wait to have.

"Bloomington is a very special place with a great soccer tradition and great people.  I feel very fortunate to be a part of this program and I look forward to working with the staff and players as we continue to strive for more championships."
