IU senior track and field athlete Derek Drouin claimed his fifth Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year award Tuesday afternoon.
Drouin won the same award during the indoor season.
Drouin won his seventh Big Ten title in the high jump on Saturday at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio. He won the outdoor competition each of his four years at IU, the first person to ever achieve that feat.
“Derek is performing like one of the best in the world this year, because he is one of the best in the world,” IU Track and Field Coach Ron Helmer said in a release. “He is a great ambassador for not only Indiana University but also for the Big Ten. He matches his competitive drive and talent with a great deal of class.”
Distance runner Bob Kennedy is the only other IU athlete to win the award five times.
Drouin also earned First Team All-Big Ten honors. Senior runner Andy Bayer, who won the 1500-meter and 5000-meter Big Ten titles, also garnered First-Team accolades. Senior high jumper Emma Kimoto, who won the women's high jump, also earned the First-Team nod.
Senior Zach Mayhew and junior Robby Nierman were named Second Team All-Big Ten.
