Track: "Heavy Feet"

With a title like “Heavy Feet,” you’d think the song would feel weighed down. You’d think.

Despite the ironic title, Local Natives whooshes you off your feet with rolling snares and driving harmonies on this single from upcoming album Hummingbird.

The band grasped its characteristic sound full of wailing vocals and melancholy lyrics on the debut album Gorilla Manor, and this track is no different. “Heavy Feet” may not sound too different from past songs—and may even sound like The National at times—but it’s cleaner and a sign of the bands growth.

While the melody of the song has momentum and power, the song is a tragic look back at a man during a time of losing the woman he loves. However, what Local Natives does best on this song is not let this tragedy overpower the song.

This track may not make any top track lists of 2013, but it’s enough to give fans a reason to anticipate Hummingbird.
