Bloomington man robbed at gunpoint, cash stolen

A Bloomington man’s nighttime stroll was interrupted when two men, one reportedly armed with a handgun, approached him from behind and allegedly robbed him at gunpoint.

The incident occurred at about 9 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of South Sweetbriar Circle and South Sweetbriar Court near Bloomington High School South.

The two suspects, both described as white males, allegedly displayed the handgun and demanded the 32-year-old victim’s wallet, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Dana Cole said.

The victim reportedly obliged, throwing his wallet to the ground. One of the men allegedly retrieved the wallet, took whatever cash was inside and threw the wallet back to the ground.

The suspects fled, and the victim reported the incident to Bloomington police.

The IU Police Department, utilizing its K-9 unit, assisted BPD in the search for suspects. They were unsuccessful.

Cole said the victim was on his cell phone at the time of the robbery and was not harmed in the incident.
