"We have a very strong, high
achieving school corporation that addresses the diverse needs of all of
our students. However, the state of Indiana’s attempts to remove local
control will have adverse local effects.
The state maintains that all
public education is failing, which is untrue, and therefore is mandating
polices at the state level rather than the local level. Control needs
to remain at the local level wherecommunities elect
their representative school boards to make decisions
based on localcommunity input.
The new state policies from
vouchers for private education, to mandated teacher evaluations to
increased emphasis on testing are all efforts to undermine
public education.
MCCSC has maintained high
standards and student success in academic areas as well
asoutstanding results in the arts, sciences and student leadership.
I will continue to speak out
against the emphasison standardized testing and the use of vouchers
which drains state taxpayer money from public schools.
I will continue to support
our staff and our teachers. We need to speak out and against those who
would blame our teachers for the failures of education when in so many
cases the failures are due to poverty and the
inequities of society."
