Bloomington police arrest man after assaulting ex-girlfriend

A recent phone argument reportedly led to a Bloomington woman being assaulted in her home and her car severely damaged.

The victim, 20, told Bloomington police that on Friday morning, at about 7 a.m., she ended her relationship with Jason Jones Lamar, 28, during a phone conversation.
 
Lamar reportedly responded by telling the woman he was going to destroy her 1999 Chevy Malibu and kill her, Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. John Kovach said.

The suspect and victim have two mutual children. At about 10:20 a.m., the woman went outside and noticed the front and back windows on her car had been busted. At least one airbag had deployed, and the gear shift was broken, Kovach said.

At this point, she retreated back inside her home, located in the 900 block of North Oolitic Drive, and called police to report the incident.

Later in the day, Lamar reportedly showed up at the residence and kicked in the door after the woman refused to grant him entry, Kovach said. Once he was inside, he reportedly grabbed the victim by her neck, thus restricting her breathing, and pushed her to the ground.

Once she was on the floor, Kovach said Lamar kicked the woman repeatedly on the left side of her rib cage. He then reportedly stole her cell phone and fled the scene.
Charges included in the warrant for Lamar’s arrest consisted of felony counts of strangulation, domestic battery, burglary, unlawful residential entry, intimidation and theft, as well as misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and a secondary intimidation charge.

The initial charge of intimidation is classified as a felony because he threatened the woman’s life, Kovach said.

The woman, again phoned police to report the incident. This time, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Lamar. He was apprehended by county authorities, turned over to BPD and booked into the Monroe County Jail on Monday.
