Ind. releases updated registration numbers

A final flurry of online and paper voter registrations were submitted on the final day of voter registration, Oct. 9, two weeks ago. Many registrations were submitted long before the October deadline.

Statistics released by the Indiana Election Division show 477,427 individuals either registered to vote for the first time or updated their personal information between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30 of this year. Of that group, 159,958 were new registrations, and 317,469 were updates.

Peak months for both types of registrations were September, followed by March.

In 2008, of the 4,514,759 Hoosiers registered to vote, 2,805,986 — or 62 percent — actually did so.
