Sabbagh

MCCSC School Board, District 4

Sabbagh is a former professor of mathematics and computer science and has taught at Bowling Green State University, Purdue University, Indiana University and  Ivy Tech Bloomington. He is co-owner of Sabbagh Associates, a small technology company, and served 12 years on the Bloomington City Council.

He has been a member of the board of the Cardinal Stage Company and Friends of Music at the Jacobs School of Music and a member and former president on the board of the Monroe County YMCA.

Each student must be provided with the best possible opportunity for success. The leadership and the school board must use sound fiscal analysis in making decisions during these tough economic times. Communication between the administration and community must be maintained. On-going evaluation of our policies and goals is critical; we must keep the focus on our children first.

Technology is an important tool that is at work in our schools. It is used in the teaching process, in curriculum development, and in allowing individualized student instruction. Teachers, principals, and administrators use data analysis to determine what works for our children. I support this approach. I would also work toward starting a program to teach information technology, perhaps software development, to our MCCSC students.

I am a collaborator and consensus builder, and would support MCCSC administrators and teachers in their efforts toward continual improvements in student outcomes. Our school professionals and our community can work together to benefit schoolchildren. MCCSC is a fine school system, with very good teachers, and strong programs. There is room for improvement. Changes that help students move along their individual paths to success should be supported. We must keep the focus on the students.
