Gov. Mitch Daniels endorsed Presidential Primary Candidate Mitt Romney
last week.
Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts and presumptive presidential nominee for the Republican Party, said in a press release that he and Daniels share similar backgrounds in business, using the principals of the private sector in government.
“Mitt Romney has proven that he understands what is at stake and is prepared to summon Americans to the changes that will restore the American Dream and our national greatness,” Daniels said. “I’ll do whatever I’m asked to help him.”
Romney said that Daniels, since he was first elected governor of Indiana in 2004, has served Indiana well because of his fiscal discipline, smaller government and fostering of a friendly environment for job creation.
“I am honored to have his support and look forward to working with him to fix our economy and get our country on the right track,” Romney said. “Indiana has not been served well by President Obama. He has failed on his promise to fix the economy and must be held accountable.”
The day prior to Indiana’s primary election, Romney will arrive in Indiana for a campaign fundraising event, according to the Associated Press.
The event will be at 6 p.m. May 7 at the JW Marriott hotel in Indianapolis.
Depending on the level of contribution, events at the fundraiser could vary. However, it will likely include a reception and dinner for several hundred individuals who are expected to come.
Ticket prices have not yet been released.
Romney last visited Indiana on Sept. 24, 2011.
“Mitt Romney has earned our party’s nomination and now deserves the support of every American still committed to government that serves the people rather than rules over them,” Daniels said. “The ruinous debts and anti-enterprise policies of today threaten more than our near-term economy; unaddressed soon, they will end the promise of upward mobility that our nation has always offered to its young and its poor.”
As Indiana’s general election draws nearer, Romney has also seen support from a range of other state lawmakers within the GOP.
“Mitt Romney is the candidate best suited to meeting the challenges our country faces,” Sen. Jim Merritt, R-Indianapolis, said. “On the issue with which Americans are most concerned, the economy, there is no other candidate who is better equipped to go toe-to-toe with President Obama, defeat him in November and restore confidence that America will continue to be the world’s most powerful nation.”
