Computing camp to teach tech skills to high-school students across state

Forget bonfires and ghost stories. This summer, high-school students from across the state can take advantage of IU’s School of Informatics and Computing Summer Camp.

Attendees of the camp will get hands-on experience in various technical areas, including animation, computer graphics, gaming, virtual reality and web design.

The camp, which is from June 17-21, will bring together Indiana high-school students and IU faculty and staff to interact with each other while learning about the new trends in many technological fields.

“This is a great way for students to get an inside look at what college life is like at IU by living on campus for a week and getting to discover all the various ways you can use technology to make an impact on the world,” said Nancy Lemons, director of undergraduate student recruiting and advising at the School of Informatics and Computing.

“Current informatics faculty and student counselors will work alongside the camp participants the entire week, and each day they will investigate applications of information technology in different settings,” Lemons said.

The idea is that campers will learn by doing work on real problems.”

Only 50 spots are available for the camp. The application deadline is May 15.
